Hello

Hello.

I'm an American ex-pat living on Anglesey in rural North Wales. We've been here about 4 years.

We are both dog nuts. Only two dogs at the moment, a senior Great Dane and a Labradoodle puppy.

I have a degree in Electrical Engineering. I've alternated between commercial jobs as a software engineer and various university research jobs. At the moment I manage a research MRI scanner.

I've been watching the Renault E.V. since the first announcement. I put in a reservation for a Kangoo Z.E. but then withdrew it because we wanted options not available at launch. I'm still interested in a Z.E. and finally got around to test driving the Kangoo and Fluence.

Welcome, Andrew!

The Kangoo is an unusual choice - are you now considering a Zoe, or do you need the carrying capacity of a van?

Short Answer:

We haven't ruled out anything yet.

Long Answer:

Almost 4 years ago, we bought a used 05 plate Vauxhall Combo van to take our dogs to the beach. It was inexpensive to buy and has been inexpensive to run.
The plan was to have a nice car to for the daily commute and long trips. The van was supposed to be for occasional weekend use so the dogs wouldn't trash the car.

In practice we are driving the van 6 days a week and the nice car mostly sits. Debbie and I both want something better. The Combo is noisy, uncomfortable and cold in the winter. It has the driving dynamics of a marshmallow towed by a snail.

Whatever we get has to be able to carry a Great Dane. Debbie wants to look at a Zoe before we make a decision. I'm thinking it just might work with the back seat out.

We've been testing a lot of small vans. To my surprise, the Kangoo Z.E. is the best so far. Debbie also wants to wait for the new Mercedes Citan before making a decision. It is a diesel Kangoo with a Mercedes interior and front clip.

RE: Hello

Did you test drive a standard panel van? For your use the maxi crew variant might be a good option.

RE: Hello

The van we drove was in the initial Launch configuration. White, sold bulkhead, a radio and no other options.

There was a diesel crew van at Renault Liverpool, but it was a customer car. Need to find a crew van or crew van cab in dealer stock somewhere. There are two Renault dealers closer to our house than Liverpool, but they aren't Z.E. specialists.
