After a whole year I've had my first two unsolicited reactions to my electric car. The first was a publican who, on hearing I had one, questioned me quite thoroughly, but didn't bother to go look at the car (unless he did it while I wasn't looking). The second involved a group of pub regulars who came out to watch me drive off, pints in hand. Not sure if they wanted to be impressed or came out in case I needed a push!

No, I don't spend my life in pubs but with the range we get I can't spend hours just driving around and anyway I prefer pubs to shopping - probably cheaper, come to think of it.

RE: Reaction

One of my neighbours spontaneously started talking to me about mine yesterday. He didn't realise it was an EV - he just thought it was a handsome car. I explained it all to him and took him for a spin. He was really impressed!

RE: Reaction

I've had a couple (?) of folks comment, surprisingly few really but then I don't bother to try talking about it. As far as I recall, all that have spotted it is something else then ask 'so, does the engine charge the battery up', or something to that effect, and I have to explain that there is no engine at all, just a battery. That seems to be the more surprising thing to people these days - I think they understand hybrids can get bigger batteries to the point of becoming EV/Rex, but a full BEV is a bit mind-blowing for most folks still.

that's my experience too - I've not had the car long, but it clearly floats along under everyone's radar like nothing else I've owned.

Let's park them side by side and he'll think he's been on a pub crawl with william...! [hr]

This just doesn't happen with a Twizy. I just can't fathom it.....!

Must be something to do with pubs. Was cornered by someone today who'd recently had his first ride in a friend's Leaf . He was interested enough to have found out about the Leaf's regular journeys and was questioning me about my car, especially with regard to range. But of course his first question was did it have a petrol engine as well as electric. He was busy eating a mountain of food or I'd have offered him a drive.

RE: Reaction

I've had no one notice that its an EV when driving it but the car has elicited an enormous amount of interest from passers by who notice the lead plugged into the car at the front of our house. We get a lot of passers by who are out for walks and I regularly get quizzed about the car. The main reaction is that people are amazed at how big the car is as everyone imagines electric cars to be tiny light weight city cars. Last week a man even fell off his bike as he was distracted by me unplugging the car and lost his balance! After helping him back to his feet I explained all the benefits of the Fluence. The British Gas charger confuses some people though who think its an LPG pump!
