Reading CAN-BUS data

Hi!

I've started to try to decode the data flowing around the CAN-BUS on the Fluence ZE.
I couldn't find information on-line and so proceeded to decode the raw data myself.

Here is a graph of a short drive with the first variables I've decoded:

In english:
Light Blue: steering wheel position
Green: forward/backward acelerometer
Yellow: steering wheel left/right aceleration
Red: Motor Power

I'm most interested in the data about the battery and temperatures, but still have much data to go through and try do make sense of all the bits and bytes.

Anyone willing to help ?

The help I need right now is to try do decode and make sense of the raw data captured from the car while driving.
If you have some programming skills you can help.

My goal is to find the battery temperature and other data related to the battery so that the questions about the cooling kicking in can be answered.

Other thing you dont have on the dashboard is motor coolant temperature for example.

RE: Reading CAN-BUS data

this doesn't look like a can bus signal how did you capture this data?

a can bus signal is a square wave form between +/- 2.5 volts

renault don't release the can bus identification codes

(hubby is a renault technician)

this looks more like a voltage fluctuation

this is a link to some can bus images http://www.picoauto.com/automotivetopics/canbus.html

hope that helps! I'm happy to ask him any other questions for you

Nicely done! How did you manage to decode the raw data? I'm quite used to CAN bus and CAN data in general, however can't help with the Fluence data unfortunately.

What we actually need from Renault, is the CAN database (preferrably a .dbc file) for the Fluence, so we can decode and analyze the raw CAN datastream easily (and do some really exciting stuff with it ;-)
Do you think "hubby" might have access to at least some of the information? If so, then please ask him.

RE: Reading CAN-BUS data

Hi
Without trying to sound condescending, I would suggest purchasing an OBD reader & and you would have more of your life to live.
The icarsoft i907 is ZE compatible.
It will give you cell voltages down to 3 decimal places, temperatures, SOC %, Battery % pack voltage and lots more like individual item live consumption.

It's not the raw data but some already processed data I plotted with a spreadsheet.

I'm using the MCP2515 chip and an arduino to capture the can-bus message frames.

I then separate the different PIDs and try to make sense of the raw bits and bytes by plotting them against time.

Of course the OEMs dont release the full data. It's part of the fun and frustation to decode it.

Purchasing is not so fun but if you want the data fast its the best option.

I already decoded some of the items you described, you just need patience and time!

As I rent the battery I'm not really worried in reading all the data and try to make it last longer as Nissan Leaf owners do, first motivation is trying to predict when the battery ventilation starts as I live in hot weather and ventilation slows down charging.
